Reporter
Join our newsroom: reporter wanted in Rome, Georgia.
The Rome News-Tribune, a seven-day daily serving Rome and Floyd County, is looking for a reporter ready to tell stories that matter. This entry-level role focuses on education and features, but every day brings new opportunities to cover the heart of our community — from covering presidential visits (President Trump made an appearance here a few weeks ago) to a new principal at one of our elementary schools.
We want someone with basic reporting skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. Photography skills are a bonus, but the most important thing is initiative and a desire to grow. Our newsroom provides mentoring in reporting, photography, copy editing and editorial work, offering a clear path for career advancement. In fact, this is exactly why this position is now open: Our previous education reporter was promoted to the No. 2 position in the newsroom, managing editor, in less than two years after embracing this opportunity.
Requirements:
- A foundational level of reporting proficiency that we can build on together
- Must live in Rome or Floyd County, Georgia
- Interest in community journalism, print and digital platforms
- Enthusiasm for learning new skills
Why work with us?
- Part of the family-owned Times-Journal Inc., focused on Georgia
- Print-first newsroom with a fast-growing digital footprint
- Five print editions plus two e-edition-only days each week
- Benefits and professional growth opportunities
About the paper: The Rome News-Tribune is the daily newspaper of Rome, Georgia. Begun originally as a weekly newspaper, the paper has survived several merges with other newspapers. How to apply: Send your résumé, cover letter, print clips, and references to Editor Tom Mayer at tmayer@rn-t.com. Applications are open until filled, and we expect the right candidate won’t stay on the market for long — Rome is an attractive, growing community with two universities and a rising population.

Rare Publisher Opportunity: Southern Newspapers / Kerrville, Texas
The stars are aligned for the right person. Publisher openings at Southern Newspapers are rare. That’s what makes this opportunity at the Kerrville Daily Times (TX) so special.
The Kerrville Daily Times serves a vibrant and growing community in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, within easy driving distance of Austin and San Antonio — two of the fastest-growing markets in the nation. And did I mention Texas? No state income tax, a fast-growing population, and a strong economy. Things really are bigger in Texas — including this opportunity. The community is highly engaged, and the newspaper is both successful and poised for additional growth.
Who are we looking for? An experienced driver of print and digital revenue, a strong community leader, a talented people person, and someone with a deeply rooted passion for community journalism. What we do matters to the communities we serve. Publisher experience is helpful, but a proven revenue generator with strong leadership skills, boundless energy, and a desire to make a difference will absolutely be considered.
What should you do today? Act — and act now. Opportunities like this don’t come along often, and these stars won’t remain aligned forever. When we find the right person, we’ll move quickly to put them in a position to succeed.
A final note: We offer a competitive compensation package, 401(k), health insurance, paid vacation, and all the benefits you’d expect from a successful organization. We work hard, have fun, and take pride in being a company where publisher opportunities rarely become available.
Act now: Leonard Woolsey, President, Southern Newspapers, Inc., at leonard.woolsey@sninews.com.
